Post subject: | Hello from France |
Hi all I'm Edgar, a newbie to the forum and have not introduced myself yet, rude I know but better late than never right.. I'm originally from the UK but now live in France, I gave up a career in IT to help run a family business in the Cognac region. I started modelling again two years ago after modelling in my youth, in those two years I've built a good cross section of models but have finally decided on two subjects that really interest me. One is whirly birds, so far every 1 48 kit I can find of any UK fielded variant. Having always been a tank enthusiast, I'm also drawn to IDF armour. Having decided on a path of IDF discovery I built Mengs Merkava Baz, and I currently have their Dooi d9r on the desk. One question is, 1 48 IDF helicopters..anyone know what's available? Second is I'd like to build a m109 doher in 1 35 next, what's the best version available? Anyways enough waffle. Nice to meet you all |

Welcome aboard. For 1/48 helicopters there are a few items on offer. Most may need some mods depending on the time frame you chose to model them The main ones for the IDF/AF would be:
Hasegawa AH-64D (they also did an I with all the necessary resin parts included, but this is a little harder to find now Academy UH-60 Hasegawa/Academy MD500D Revell CH-53 Monogram/Revell AH-1 Italeri Bell 47 Trumpeter SA565 Dauphin (you'll need the IsraCast Atalef conversion) Italeri UH-1N Italeri UH-1H Gallery Models H-34 Italeri/Esci/Heller/Fujimi Jet Ranger Heller Allouette II Heller/Fujimi Gazelle Pretty sure there are no Frelons available in that scale. Pretty much covers most of them. Italeri also do a V-22 - Israel doesn't have them yet but is due to receive 6. |

Thanks very much for that info, I have already in the stash a Kitty hawk SA565 Dauphin so will look to possibly convert that one as a starting point. Would love to see a 1 48 Frelon having seen one recently at a collection in Bordeaux. Everything else is a shopping list then, I take it Isracast is the place to head to for conversions and decals. All very helpful thanks again |

Isracast have a few sets, but they are sold under Wingman Models now I believe. There is a Dauphin conversion to Atalef, an AH-1 update set, an AH-64 set. If you can find this kit, it comes with resin and decals in it - pretty much most of what you need to build a good Saraf.
